Almost the whole world struggles with fractions, so for Special Education students, we need to teach fractions differently.
When you see one fraction, there’s usually a hidden fraction we don’t talk about it! If you do, their understanding of fractions would improve!

Special Education students many time struggles with counting coins. Usually the struggle lies in the similar but different patterns of skip counting by 5’s and 10’s.
They usually can skip count by 5’s and 10’s separately but if you have 3 nickels and 2 dimes, the patterns then become mixed and thus the struggle begins.
Make sure they understand the 100’s chart and use the 100’s chart when they first try this game.
Special Education students tend to need a lot more practice when learning the bonds of ten.
Here is a game to help strengthen their skills of adding up to ten.

Special Education students tend to learn their doubles up to 5 (5+5 = 10) and then they begin to struggle with their doubles from 6 and up. Here is a game to help strengthen their higher doubles.
